Twenty First Sunday in Ordinary Time Year - 2016
There was a time, (When there was no Television, but only radio; what was emerging then was a black and white television, you can guess the era I am referring to here). At this time, when the parents said to their son to be back home by 6:00PM; the kid was already in home at 5:45PM. At that time when the teacher asked John: why he was disturbing her class? John would be restless for the whole class because he would not want Mrs. Johnson, his Teacher, to tell his mom how disturbing he was in her class. He would receive a discipline treatment for his bad manners. Then, a neighbor or a police officer would advise or caution a child who was insulting his or her mom or dad or ones seniors not to be rude to them. Those are in the old days, RIGHT???
However, today, if I can suggest (The digital age of the Colored Television, Computers/Internet and exotic Cell phones) Psychologists and psychiatrists have become parents for our kids, because they carried them for nine months for our parents? I am not suggesting that irresponsible parents should not be held accountable, but we should realize that our children cannot think that life is so easy, that they can always get everything they want in life. No, this is practically not true!
Let us pay attention to the ageless wisdom from the Book of Hebrews of this Sunday, Brothers and sisters, You have forgotten the exhortation addressed to you as children: “My son, do not disdain the discipline of the Lord or lose heart when reproved by him; for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines; he scourges every son he acknowledges.” Endure your trials as “discipline”; God treats you as sons. For what “son” is there whom his father does not discipline? At the time, all discipline seems a cause not for joy but for pain, yet later it brings the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who are trained by it. So strengthen your drooping hands and your weak knees. Make straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.
Are our kids better off today, than they were pre-internet age? A food for thought, brethren?
Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary – 2016
Last Monday, August 15, 2016. The Holy Mother Church celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary, The Mother of God into Heaven. This Monday, August 22, 2016, The Universal Church, follows in the footsteps of our Lord, Jesus Christ, to recognize the Queenship of His Mother in Heaven. In Her wisdom, The Holy Mother Church always ends Her liturgical year with the celebration of the The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe. This is the culmination of who our Savior is? The King indeed! Hence, as a King, it is proper as well as appropriate that the Mother of the King should also become a Queen, especially when His own Son has chosen to bring Her to stay with Him and enjoy the beatific vision with The Most Holy Trinity, the Angels, the Apostles and the Saints. It is the greatest honor that God has bestowed on His creature. That Her daughter would also become the Queen in Heaven.
Our Blessed Mother, Queen of Heaven…Pray for us, Amen
